Scope conversion

R6 ADS Calculator

Official Ubisoft Y5S3

Convert a pre-Shadow Legacy ADS sensitivity into per-scope values for Rainbow Six Siege using the official Ubisoft Y5S3 formula.

Console players typically use a fixed FOV. PC players should enter their current in-game vertical FOV setting.

Overview

What the R6 ADS Calculator Does

Before the Shadow Legacy update in Year 5 Season 3, Rainbow Six Siege used a single ADS sensitivity value that applied to every scope. The update introduced independent sensitivity settings for each zoom level, giving players finer control but leaving many with a legacy number and no clear way to split it across eight scopes.

This calculator takes your old single ADS value and converts it into recommended settings for 1.0x through 12.0x scopes using the conversion method published by Ubisoft. The result is a practical starting point that preserves the feel of your original setting as closely as the formula allows.

Steps

How to Use It

  1. Enter legacy ADS.Find your current ADS sensitivity in the game settings (1–100) and type it in.
  2. Set FOV and ratio.Keep the default 60° vertical FOV unless you have changed it in-game. Select your monitor aspect ratio.
  3. Apply and test.Copy the results into each scope slot, then verify the feel in the Shooting Range.

Background

Legacy ADS and Shadow Legacy Scope Sensitivity

In the legacy system, one ADS sensitivity governed all magnification levels. A player who preferred a fast hip-fire setting might have used ADS 30, and that single number controlled everything from the red dot to the 12x ACOG. Shadow Legacy replaced this with eight independent sliders, one per scope magnification.

Ubisoft provided a conversion formula so players could migrate their existing feel rather than starting from scratch. The formula accounts for how zoom magnification and field of view interact to change the perceived speed of crosshair movement.

Technical

How the Ubisoft Conversion Works

The conversion has three stages. First, your vertical FOV and aspect ratio determine the horizontal FOV. If the horizontal FOV exceeds 150 degrees, the vertical value is capped to prevent extreme distortion. Second, each scope's FOV multiplier scales the adjusted vertical FOV to represent the narrowed view through that optic. Third, the ADS multiplier for each scope is divided by the resulting FOV adjustment and multiplied by your legacy value.

In formula form:

HorizontalFOV = 2 × atan(tan(VFOV / 2) × AspectRatio)
FOVAdjustment = tan(FOVMult × AdjVFOV / 2) ÷ tan(AdjVFOV / 2)
NewADS = ADSMult ÷ FOVAdjustment × LegacyADS

All angles are converted between degrees and radians internally. Results are rounded to the nearest integer and clamped to the game's accepted range of 1–200. Ubisoft published this method in their Y5S3 ADS sensitivity guide.

Caveats

Limitations and Testing Your Result

The formula produces a mathematically consistent starting point, not a guarantee that every scope will feel identical to your legacy setting. Perception of speed changes with magnification, and personal preference plays a role. Some players prefer slightly faster high-magnification scopes for flick shots, or slightly slower low-magnification scopes for tracking.

Always verify the converted values in the Shooting Range. Fire at targets at varying distances, switch between scopes mid-engagement, and adjust by small increments if a specific zoom level feels off. The calculator gives you eight coherent numbers so you avoid rebuilding from zero.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to use this if I already set per-scope values manually?

No. If you have already tuned each scope to your liking, keep your settings. This calculator is for players migrating from a single legacy value or starting fresh.

Does the calculator work for console players?

Yes. Console players typically use a fixed vertical FOV of 60, which is the default. The formula applies the same way regardless of input method.

Why do 1.5x through 5.0x all return similar values?

The ADS and FOV multipliers for those scopes are close in ratio, so the formula produces similar sensitivity values. The differences become more pronounced at the extremes (1.0x and 12.0x).

What aspect ratio should I select?

Match your monitor's native ratio. Most players use 16:9. Ultrawide monitors use 21:9. The aspect ratio only affects the result when it pushes the horizontal FOV past 150 degrees.

Can I convert back from per-scope values to a single legacy ADS?

This calculator only converts from legacy to per-scope. A reverse conversion is not part of the official Ubisoft method and is not supported here.

Where can I convert my hip-fire sensitivity from other games?

Use the R6 Sensitivity Calculator on the home page to convert from CS2, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and other FPS titles to Rainbow Six Siege.
